Planning process
BT submitted an outline planning application to Suffolk Coastal District Council (SCDC) in September 2008 following three phases of public consultation, with a revised outline planning application submitted in April 2009 after detailed discussions with SCDC and other consultees. The application has since been subject to the normal planning and consultation processes, led by SCDC.
In January 2010, BT submitted additional information to SCDC on a range of topics relating to the application, including new information on external road layouts, environmental assessments and design, among other topics. These new documents can be viewed on SCDC’s website by clicking here.
SCDC is now consulting on these additional documents before making a final decision on the application by spring 2010. If you wish to submit your views to SCDC, please write to the Head of Planning by 25 February 2010, quoting the application number C09/0555.

In the 18 months before the submission of proposals, BT undertook public consultation on its vision for the regeneration of Adastral Park. Local residents and resident associations, parish councils, District and County councillors, and interest groups all had the opportunity to view and discuss the emerging plans and give their views about how they should be developed.
BT’s sequence of showcase events, which took place in March and April 2008 in and around Adastral Park, were attended by over 1,000 people. Many of the suggestions made by visitors to these events have been incorporated into the proposals finally submitted to the council, including:
- The opportunity for an open air amphitheatre for public performances, located within the central park at the heart of the new residential community
- The incorporation of a wildlife/ecology corridor running from north to south across the site, as well as the retention of large woodland areas
- Large allotment areas to enable local food production
- Significant public space, leisure and sports facilities throughout the site
- A renewable energy centre
- Significant investment to enhance and improve junctions on the A12
- Identification of specific public transport measures, including locations for a network of bus stops to serve the community and those working at Adastral Park
Full details of the public consultation undertaken by BT are contained in the Statement of Community Engagement. This document is available to view on this website as part of our outline planning application. Please click here to be taken to the document.
